What Are the Parts of Ghostwriting a Book?

There are five parts to ghostwriting a book:

Organizing your thoughts. I can do this for you if you wish, but it is usually best for you to do it yourself.
Choosing quotes, anecdotes, illustrations, historical examples, diagrams, etc. Although I can help, this is often something you will want to do yourself.
Research. Depending on your topic, there might be the need for substantial additional research. This will vary from book to book and from author to author.
Writing. This is self-explanatory and what I do for you.
Editing – second draft. How extensive an edit you require will depend primarily on how much of the information you want included was given to the ghost writer as part of the first three points above.

How Many Books Can I Expect To Sell?

I’ve recently read that the majority of books from traditional publishers sell less than 300 copies, nine out of ten lose money, and most books don’t recover the advance paid to the author (this is not to say the advance is too much).

If you’re a self-published author you have an advantage. You know your market. You are passionate about your product. You have the desire to share your message.

Go through the information I’ve placed on this blog. Set out a Marketing Plan that will work for you. Follow it. Realize holding a printed book in your hand that less than 10% of the work is done.

I’ve learned something profound when it comes to book marketing. Writers are told “You need to have a platform for your book” while business people realize “The book will be my platform.”

The truth, as in most truth in life, lies in the tension of the middle. You need to know how to build a platform for your book. You need to know how to leverage the platform your book has on its own. Basically you need to show you are an expert and be the expert people need.

How to Use Online Classified Ads To Sell Your Book

In advertising circles, these four features are often designated by the acronym “A.I.D.A.,” which stands for:

Attention (headline)

Interest (body text)

Desire (added body text)

Action (call to action).

So what makes a classified ad good or bad? First of all, it must appeal to the reader, and as such, it must say exactly what you want it to say. Secondly, it has to say what it says in the least possible number of words in order to keep your operating costs within your budget. And thirdly, it has to produce the desired results whether inquiries or sales.

Grabbing the reader’s attention is your first objective. You must assume the reader is “scanning” the page on which your ad appears in the company of two or three hundred classified ads. Therefore, there has to be something about your ad that causes him to stop scanning and look at yours!

So, the first two or three words of your ad are the most important and deserve your careful consideration. Most surveys show that words or phrases that quickly involve the reader, tend to be the best attention-grabbers.

Whatever words you use as attention-grabbers, to start your ads, you should bear in mind that they’ll be competing with similar attention-grabbers of the other ads on the same page. Therefore, in addition to your lead words, your ad must quickly go on to promise or state further benefits to the reader.

In the language of professional copywriters, you’ve grabbed the attention of your prospect, and interested him with something that even he can do.

The next rule of good classified copywriting has to do with the arousal of the reader’s desire to get in on your offer. In a great many instances, this rule is by-passed, and it appears, this is the real reason that an ad doesn’t pull according to the expectations of the advertiser.

Think about it – you’ve got your reader’s attention; you’ve told him it’s easy and simple; and you’re about to ask him to do something. Unless you take the time to further “want your offer,” your ad is going to only half turn him on. He’ll compare your ad with the others that have grabbed his attention and finally decide upon the one that interests him the most.

Offer a freebie on Craig’s List: you’ll be amazed at how much traffic you get from a single Craig’s List ad. Make sure people have to sign up for something like your email newsletter before they can grab their freebie. That way you’re not just getting traffic, you’re also building your list.

Amazon is a social networking site as well.

Go to Amazon, click on any recently published book and page down beyond the official reviews by Publishers Weekly, New York Times, etc. You’ll find Customer Reviews. Many of the reviewers identify themselves as the authors of a number of reviews.

These authors have learned how to market their books by reviewing others. It’s the biblical principal “They who refresh others will they themselves be refreshed.”

Be the expert! Write reviews for books in your genre. Keep them professional and as positive as you can. This leads people interested in what you say back to the book you’ve mentioned you wrote.

As you regularly review or blog about specific genres people may in time come to the conclusion that your judgment is reliable and enlightening. Thereafter, when they see your name next to a review of a new book, they may very well be motivated to buy it.
